Late Prof Dora Akunyili's daughter is currently making waves in the art world.
Based in Los Angeles, Njideka Crosby Akunyili has a lot of art works to her name and many wealthy collectors are queuing to buy.
Ms Crosby’s first European solo artshow will open at the Victoria Miro Gallery in London on October 4th. She works mostly on paper, creating large-scale interiors that combine serene human figures with thick areas of collage and image-transfer that radiates her Nigerian heritage.
“Her paintings have a distinct
vocabulary,” says Glenn Scott Wright, a director at Victoria Miro, which
represents Ms Crosby. “You can go
around an art fair with 10,000 works
and you would know hers immediately.”
We're happy that Nigerians are representing their roots well wherever they go and we wish her the best in her endeavours.
